Vat Dye/Discharge
Vat Dye/Discharge involves replacing existing color with new color. Vat dyes (not dischargable) are applied to pre-dyed (with dischargable dye) fabric by painting, block printing, etc. When steamed, the old color is discharged and the new vat dye takes its place. I learned this technique from Janet Taylor. I carve my original images on insulation board, using a wood burning tool, and create complex designs by using multiple images and overdyes.
