Charlotte (Charlie) Slate is a surface design artist working in Greenville SC.

I've always been interested in fabric arts, and took as many classes as were offered in college, where I earned a BFA.

Right after college I exhibited batik (quilts, custom designed clothing, and wall pieces) in numerous shows from 1976 to the early 80's. I pretty much stopped producing art to sell after my children were born, though I never lost interest and have continued to collect pieces by local and regional artists.

During the long hiatus, I attended many classes, learning new techniques, or brushing up on old ones. I'm an artist member of the Metropolitan Arts Council, and am now exhibiting my work again.

I teach children at my home studio, elementary through high school. I also teach classes for adults, beginners and more experienced are welcome.

I work with my husband, who does black and white photography. Together, we’re Slate Studios.
